Meta’s text-focused social media platform Threads has hit a significant milestone, reaching 200 million active users just 13 months after its launch. Instagram head Adam Mosseri confirmed the achievement, expressing hope that Threads will “inspire ideas that bring people together.”
The rapid growth of Threads, which positions itself as a rival to Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter), demonstrates the platform’s increasing popularity. For comparison, X reportedly had over 600 million monthly users as of May, according to owner Elon Musk.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has previously suggested that Threads has the potential to become a platform with more than a billion users. During a recent earnings call, Zuckerberg described Threads as being on a “good growth trajectory” and mentioned ongoing efforts to improve the platform’s content recommendation system.
The success of Threads comes at a time when many users have been seeking alternatives to X, following controversial changes under Musk’s ownership. As Threads continues to evolve and attract users, it may reshape the landscape of text-based social media platforms in the coming years.
