Sega and Microsoft announced they had a ‘strategic alliance’ that will enable Sega to produce games that will be built on Azure, Microsoft’s cloud platform.
The announcement was made via Sega’s website. It went further to state that the alliance would form a key part of Sega’s mid to long term strategy, and will allow the business to move forward with ‘Super Game,’ a new initiative for developing new, innovative titles.
The innovation titles will have a key focus on pillars of ‘Global,’ ‘Online,’ and ‘IP utilization.’
Yukio Sugino, Sega’s president, noted that the “partnership with Microsoft will help advance their game development so that titles can be enjoyed by fans all around the world.” Microsoft’s CVP, Sarah Bond, also said, “she looks forward to explore new ways to create unique gaming experiences for the future using Microsoft’s cloud technologies.”
A similar agreement was made in 2019 between Sony and Microsoft. It also focused on the use of the Azure cloud system.
