Renault has teamed up with French designer, Mathieu Lehanneur, to create a concept car, the Suite N°4.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the original Renault 4L. It was manufactured in 28 countries, sold in over 100 countries and about 8 million units of Renault were sold. It was also known as the people’s car.
The Renault 4L had the first-ever hatch-back design, was simple, had a spacious interior and needed low maintenance. Suite N°4 will be based on the original 4L but with a twist. It will be converted into an EV; half of the bodywork will be stripped and replaced with polycarbonate windows, hence, preserving the 4L’s silhouette and at the same time, creating a light and airy interior.
It will also be characterised by a yellow velvet fabric that will cover the seats and dashboard, with a thick fabric in the rear. Cushions and bolsters will also be added to create a space to lounge.
Mathieu got this inspiration from the juxtaposition of automobiles and architecture. His projects have cut across things like art, interior design, technology and chairs. The Suite N°4 concept was recently revealed at Christy’s in Paris. It will be on show at Maison & Object in January 2022.
