Apple TV+ Film, CODA Wins Best Picture At The Oscars

Apple TV+ is the first streaming service that has won an Academy Award. Apple’s CODA won the award for Best Picture.

From a Wall Street Journal report, Apple spent an estimated amount of $10 million for their Oscar campaign for CODA. Apple also paid $25 million for distribution rights to CODA and is currently streaming on Apple TV+ and was on for a limited run in theatres.

Netflix and Apple were the two services that were considered forerunners in the category. CODA follows the story of Ruby, a Child of Deaf Adults who plans to join her family’s fishing business but is drawn towards a music career.

Troy Kotsur, CODA actor also won an award for being the best supporting actor and this makes it the first Deaf male actor. The Oscars won by CODA for Apple TV+ are the first.
