Microsoft has announced their intentions to acquire Activision Blizzard in a blockbuster deal worth $68.7 billion.
This will be one of the greatest acquisitions in the tech world and will also boost Microsoft’s stand in the gaming industry.
The acquisition is said to be done in cash and is valued at $68.7 billion and this deal will make Microsoft the third-largest gaming company by revenue. Microsoft will also add lots of Activision’s games to Xbox Game Pass once the deal is closed.
Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella says ‘they are investing deeply in world-class content, community and the cloud to usher in a new era of gaming that will put players and creators first and also make gaming safe, inclusive and accessible to all.’
The acquisition might serve as a building block of the metaverse; as the Xbox maker will become the world’s third-biggest gaming company by revenue behind China’s Tencent and Japan’s Sony.
This news comes months after Activision has been affected by allegations of discrimination and sexual misconduct in the workplace.
Games like Call of Duty, Candy Crush and World of Warcraft will be put under Microsoft’s wings as part of the deal.
