Instagram will be adding a new parental feature on the platform by March 2022. This is been done as the company faces pressure in shielding young users against harmful content and from overusing the platform.

The announcement was made by Instagram service head, Adam Mosseri, in a blog post, where he said the feature will notify parents to see how long their wards (especially teenagers) spend on the app and also to limit their amount of time on it.

Teenagers will also be informed (on the app) if their parents or guardian has reported someone for violating Instagram rules.

Even though Mosseri’s post says the feature has been in the works for a long time, the announcement is coming at a time when suggestive revelations have been said about the company. Mosseri is also due to in front of a Seate committee to testify about the impact(s) Instagram has on young users.

This new feature won’t allow users to tag or mention followers who don’t follow them and it is also releasing a feature that will enable users to delete their posts, likes and comment in bulk. This will be applied by January 2022.

Instagram is also developing an educational hub that offers parents and wards tips and tutorials about children’s social media use.
