The tech company announced its Self Service Repair that will allow customers self-repair their products.
Self Service Repair will be made effective early next year in the US and will be available for iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 devices. Mac devices with the M1 chips will come next and will be available to other countries throughout 2022.
The repair will be done in phases, as the first stage will focus on the battery, camera and display of each device. This will be done this way as the company highlighted that those are the commonly serviced parts before introducing additional repairs in 2022.
Jeff Williams, Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, said that “Apple has doubled the number of service locations with access to Apple’s genuine parts, tools and training in the past three years.” He also mentioned this new feature will provide a better option for customers who wish to complete their repairs.
To get started, customers will have to review the Repair Manual for them to safely perform a repair. They can then proceed to place an order for Apple genuine tools and parts using the Apple Self Repair Online Store. Following the repair, customers can return their used parts for recycling and will receive credits toward their purchase.Â
